About
Growing up in two of the most architecturally advanced cities, Beijing and Vancouver, I was greatly inspired by the mash of architecture of the new and old worlds. These two cities successfully blended tradition and history, such as the old part of Beijing and Gastown of Vancouver, as well as modernism and technology, such as the CCTV Building and Vancouver’s Convention Centre. Additionally, the systematic skylines are always in an orderly organization despite their complicated appearance, drawing influences from the everchanging and persistent formal and systematic qualities of nature.
My architectural works explore the system that connects forms or spaces and expands their relationship with people and nature. In my eyes, architecture goes beyond just beautiful forms and shapes, it should mimic and take influence from systems, relationships, and qualities of biological nature, especially a sense of order and rhythm despite the random appearance. Each piece of architecture follows an organizational pattern regardless of its complexity, generating time-tested and efficient systems, patterns, and relationships that foster symbiotic relationships with nature, environment, and people. The dynamic quality of nature influences motion, evolution, and development as a crucial notion of my architectural works.
