Shattered
Personal Project — June 2018
By Thomas Wang
This architecture piece explores the idea of juxtaposition and contradiction as it contains fluidity within rigidity as well as brilliant color alongside blank whiteness. The complex folding techniques of paper are used as the body of the architectural piece, while shattered shell of the outside adds more architecture space beyond the body of the piece. The shattered body of the piece seems like a pile of randomly placed shattered glass; however, within the chaos in the piece, there is a system of how each piece is place and organized. The red and yellow fluid strip is guided by the curved site and interweaves a sense of movement and flow into the piece. The overall composition of this piece involves the mixture and blending of seemly juxtaposing elements; however, it contains a system in which all the elements are organized and flow easily.
